Annyeonghaseyo! We are FilipiNoonas!
“FilipiNoonas” is a combination that plays on the word “Filipino” and the Korean word “Noona” which means “older sister” (used by men to women).
One fateful evening, four Korean language and culture enthusiasts were brought together by a common friend. With this common interest birthed the idea of a platform that can inform other like-minded fans of K-culture in the Philippines.
Other than “FilipiNoonas“, we came up with other witty names to call ourselves including “밥 못 사주는 예쁜 누나들” which means “pretty sisters who can’t buy (me) food“. The name was inspired from the drama “Something in the Rain” whose Korean title is “밥 잘 사주는 예쁜 누나” which means “pretty sister who buys (me) food“. We thought it didn’t sound as cool as it is in Korean when translated to English and we wanted to spare ourselves from explaining the meaning of the name over and over again so we all agreed to go with “FilipiNoonas” which is just as cool.
FilipiNoonas’ Facebook page was launched on November 8, 2018 which serves as a place for us to share various contents about Korean culture, language, music, dramas etc.
Angeli, Arin, Cami and Joanna are your FilipiNoonas on duty, ready to serve the kimchi on K-everythings.
